DEMO REEL

My main tasks on HBO’s The Penguin were to develop a setup for additional water splashes so we can stage additional small events that add another layer of detail to the main simulation.

Yu Yu Hakusho is my first project after joining Stormborn Studios and one of my favorite manga.
My main tasks were creating effects around an invisible dome of force field trapping swarms of “devilbugs“. I developed particle systems for the swarms of devilbugs to fly towards the dome, cause impacts, then regroup. I also had a setup to procedurally place the magic shockwaves when the bugs hit the dome. Additionally, I added the trailing particles around the edge of the dome where it meets the floor.

For this shot in HBO’s Sympathizer, I generated the flying dirt chunks with animated grass attached and added fire trails as the explosion ejects them from behind the camera.

Personal projects
These are some of the personal projects that I really enjoyed.
I started the wild fire project when I was learning instancing in Solaris and rendering fire with Karma. The project turned out to be much more challenging than I anticipated, especially the rendering. I ended up having to render with both Karma CPU and XPU to get the indirect lighting. And because of that this piece was actually selected by sideFX to be on their Karma XPU showreel.
This project taught me so much about CFX and vellum. It was one of those projects that I had to start from scratch many times to get it right. But it was all worth it when I saw the render for the first time.
